Getting involved
Since 1996, over 3500 young people have realised their true potential
through the Hackney Schools Mentoring Programme.
If you are considering how you might give something back to
the community, and want to make a real difference to a student’s
life, you need look no further than this project. You will be
trained, supported and valued, and next year the person you
have mentored will tell their friends to give it a go –
and that's a badge you can wear
with pride!

involved including how it works, your
commitments, how we help and how
you benefit.
1. How it works?
Mentors and students are recruited and trained by HSMP.
They are matched with a mentor based upon what they have
written in their profile forms
The students travel up to their mentor’s place of
work once a fortnight for an hour. Students have the option
of a 1:1, 1: small group or group: group mentoring relationship.
The mentoring year begins in September and lasts until July
(one academic year).

Your
commitment » |
|
You need to be available for one academic year and should
be available at least once a fortnight, (although it is
not unusual for some meetings to take place weekly).
You will need 1 – 1.5 hours free for mentoring. It
is also vital that each mentor be supported by their employer.
Volunteers are required to attend recruitment and a training
session before they begin mentoring. You must be willing
to provide general support for students in their area of
needs.
