What better way to get the mentoring year rolling along than
an ice-skating trip! Mentors from Linklaters
and students from Skinners Company’s School for
Girls were the first to brave the ice. The thirty students,
some who had never skated before, had a great time spinning round
the Somerset House rink with its atmospheric
lighting and looming statues.

| Hackney Free student braves the Ice |
The Hackney Schools Mentoring Programme organised four trips
in January with the generous support of ELBA companies –
Linklaters, Freshfields and
the Bank of England. At Broadgate Ice in Liverpool
Street, some of the Hackney Free students brought
their own skates, amazing their peers with their spins and stops.
The girls from Haggerston were all really enthusiastic
too. It was hard to tell the mentors from the mentees when the
students displayed their stunning skating skills.
The sessions were a great way to kick-start mentoring relationships
again after the Christmas break. Hackney Schools Mentoring Programme
is organising future excursions to a tenpin bowling alley and
a visit to a local police station.
