Likely Questions and suitable answers

Remember that all the interviewer really has to go by is your CV so make sure that you know it back to front, dates etc. The interviewer may question you to clarify your CV, on your character and personality, or experience and achievements. Remember that they can only judge you on what you tell them, so always answer their questions as fully and honestly as you can. Try to avoid one-word answers, and give reasons for your answers and opinions whenever they are relevant.

ALWAYS – have a good answer for why you left a job – you should always be as honest as possible in an interview but never say things like – ‘I hated my boss’ or ‘it was so boring I walked out’ – you need to give good reasons that suggest that you will; be reliable and that you aren’t going to walk out of this job.

It is fine to talk about your hobbies in passing such as music, sport but never state that this is what you really want to do and that you are looking for a job until you get your ‘lucky break.’ It is really good to have a passion and it says a lot of positive things about a person but you have to take into account that the interviewer wants you to stay in the job and not run off after a few weeks because something better has come along.

Also it is good to suggest that you want to stay with a company for a long time and work your way up the ranks by putting in as much loyalty and effort as you can.

Interviewers want to hear that you are one or all of the following so it is good to include some of the following buzzwords in your interview – but only if you mean them!!!!

· Hard Working
· Confident
· Loyal
· Good under pressure
· Professional
· Take pride in your work
· Enjoy working with people
· A team player
· A good sense of humour

Try and think of examples when you have done the above in your past work experience. It is really good to have examples and will always score you points.

If you can’t think of anything to say – say nothing rather than waffle. It would be better to say – ‘I’m sorry I can’t think of anything but if I do I will let you know later on’ rather than a lot of nothing.
