What do I see when I walk out my front door?
Drugs, guns, violence and much much more
Or do I see what I want to see
Laughter, flowers and a summer bee
Is Hackney as bad as people say?
I don’t know coz its changing everyday
Hackney is a place it is not people
So why judge, because were all equal
Bad things all ways happen
Friends and family die
Girls and boys stand on the street and shake
their heads and cry
All different races argue and fight
One day we must learn we have to unite
When is all this rivalry gonna end?
Why can’t we forgive and forget or even
just pretend?
Thieves creep about, in and out of homes
This why the police officer frequently roams
School girls smoking, truanting for the day
Don’t seem to realize, they’re throwing
their lives away
Buses and cars up and down the street
Mare Street buzzes, where the heart of Hackney
beats
Squashed into council flats, not suitable for
a mouse
Surely everyone deserves a comfortable safe house
I see young boys standing on the street
Doing what they think they have to, to make ends
met
Going to school should be a main priority
But instead they listen to the media and think
their a
menace to the society
Here in Hackney, young and free
Life’s door waiting to open, with opportunity
But you never seem to realize what’s right
in front of you
Imagine today life can end
For something as small and foolish as acting
tough to impress a friend
Unique and full of talent, don’t let
the streets hold you down
It’s not to late to change your ways,
you can turn your life around
There are good and the bad, highs and the lows
Despite all this I am proud to say
This is MY HACKNEY
And I’d have it no other way!
